Anna Gardiner
New Paintings
17 April - 17 May 2002
NEW YORK

In paintings made before and after the events of September 2001, Manhattan-based artist Anna Gardiner demonstrates a new assurance and maturity of vision. Anna's New Yorkers live in an irrevocably changed world, and never has the moment of encounter, always a theme in her work, arrested in incidental detail and the unconscious poetry of gesture, been as full of vivid, prescient intuition.
Abstract colourfields are handled with a sense of urgency to almost rapturous effect. Anna's empathic, psychologically penetrating narrative approach is apposite to its times in these paintings of ordinary people, swept into an extraordinary world.
After the success of her fourth solo exhibition in London in December 2001, Art First New York will give Anna her first solo exhibition in her adopted city in April 2002.
