Philippa Stjernsward's abstraction is derived from an intuitive process. She creates sensuous surfaces with paint and wax into which she draws or scratches, articulating shapes and marking out the textures. Each painting is allowed its individual identity with a sensibility of its own. From her London studio she evokes the exotic, drawn from another life abroad - achieving successfully rigorous pieces beyond the anecdotal.
