The Elemental Arts Project: Fired Earth Interiors and Art First
29 June - 2 July 2004

Art First is delighted to be collaborating with Fired Earth on this exciting project which celebrates Fired Earth's twentieth anniversary.

Ten artists from all parts of the country, represented by Art First, have agreed to create a painting with Fired Earth paints for the Elemental Arts Project. They have also each designed and decorated a room set using Fired Earth paints and materials. These will be shown at a special exhibition at Art First before touring nationally to Birmingham, to Edinburgh during the Festival, and to Fired Earth's inspirational stores.

Full details of the artists' exhibition history and other images of their work are available on this website: The participating artists are: Eileen Cooper RA, Luke Elwes, Kimberley Gundle, Gillian Lever, Alex Lowery, Bridget Macdonald, Helen MacAlister, Will Maclean, Clement McAleer, and David Prentice.

Five emerging artists identified by Craftspace Touring, are working with schoolchildren and in the company's inspirational stores using Fired Earth materials; they too will exhibit their works of art alongside Art First artists. Fired Earth has worked with Craftspace Touring and with Arts & Business on this project, both of which are devoted to raising awareness of the importance of the arts and establishing practical links between artists and businesses.

"Fired Earth has made an inspired link with the creative energies of well established practising artists in this country. It is an initiative that is evolving on a daily basis and Art First welcomes this direct approach to bringing good contemporary art into peoples' homes and lives.

Using Fired Earth's paints and other products, the artists clearly demonstrate the sophistication of the material, its versatility and relevance to a whole range of contemporary lifestyles, cleverly reflected in the room sets as well as in their paintings".
