Penelope & The Cosmos
CIRCA, Johannesburg
3 November – 15 December, 2009
This exhibition launches the public programme at Johannesburg's new CIRCA building on Jellicoe Avenue, designed and built by architect Pierre Swanepoel. Karel Nel and Willem Boshoff, fellow South African artists, have been invited to create installations and other works specially for this remarkable space, based on their complementary interest in stars and mythology. Nel takes his work with the COSMOS Project to an even greater scale, following his exhibition at Art First in 2008 called The Brilliance of Darkness, while Boshoff, in 'Children of the Stars' explores the Genesis myth through a series of sculptures inspired by the heritage site known as the Cradle of Humankind. |
